The Immanuel German School, a not-for-profit, non-sectarian and non-discriminatory language school, was founded in 1975 to offer German language instruction to the children of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation. Over the years, the program has grown in its dimension and scope and now attracts students from the Greater Philadelphia area and southern New Jersey. In 1991, in response to numerous requests, the first adult classes were offered. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Conversation courses are offered. The school places children into classes according to their age and knowledge of German. Students enjoy state-of-the-art teaching materials, technology, and a resource library. Our educators attend workshops throughout the year to become better acquainted with the newest techniques, methodologies, and aids that are available to them. Adult classes emphasize developing conversational skills, as well as learning German vocabulary and grammar. All classes discuss cultural and social topics, especially as they differ from American customs. The Immanuel German School is a member of the German Language School Conference, PASCH-Net.de, and the German American Chamber of Commerce – Philadelphia.
